Before any asphalt cutting or new structure work can begin in a parking lot, the site has to be properly staged. That means getting erosion and sediment controls in place first - not as an afterthought, but as the first order of business. It's a step that's easy to overlook but required for a reason.
We installed safety fencing and silt sock around the work zone to meet E&S requirements before the asphalt cutting phase kicked off. The silt sock runs along the perimeter to keep sediment from migrating off-site during the work. The safety fencing sections off the active construction area from the rest of the parking lot, keeping the job organized and the surrounding area protected.
A lot of contractors rush past this phase. But skipping proper E&S controls on a commercial site like this isn't just a compliance risk - it can hold up the entire project if an inspector flags it. Getting these controls right upfront keeps everything moving.
This kind of staging work is a core part of what we do on commercial sites across Hanover County. Whether it's a new structure going in or a parking lot modification, the groundwork has to be solid before the real work starts. We handle the E&S side so the crews doing the cutting and building can focus on what they do best.
